Milan’s secrets: guided tour through myths and legends

Throughout its millennial history, Milan has guarded secrets and legends whose traces are still visible in the monuments that survived war and urban development, on the façades and aisles of churches and subterranean streets in the city.
Along with Emanuela, we learn to recognize the esoteric signs of the city and venture into Milan’s legends: myths such as Biscione, ghosts, superstitions and funny anecdotes.
Our guided tour begins at the old town centre, in the Church of San Bernardino alle Ossa near the University. From here we go to the Duomo, walking through via Dante we get to Castello Sforzesco, one of the most haunted places in Milan!
On the walls of the Sforzesco Castle we will identify the Biscione, animal symbol of the city: dragon or snake?
Not far from here, one of the first ghosts appears: in the proximity of Sempione Park we will discover the story of a Dama Velata (veiled lady) with her magnetic charm and her scent of violet.
But is not over yet! Milan is populated by famous ghosts like Lucrezia Borgia, who at night combs her hair kept in display at the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana.
Also in Milan you can see the famous Lady with an Ermine of the notorius Leonardo’s painting, who was the lover of Ludovico il Moro. The beautiful Cecilia Gallerani can be seen from one of the windows of the Carmagnola Palace just during the All Souls’ night. The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed is celebrated annually on 2 November.
Our itinerary through the legends of Milan continues toward other stories and myths. Here, walking through the Basilicas Park and Piazza della Vetra, we visit the sites where the Italian Inquisition took place. Yet, in the same place, Sant’Eustorgio Church, the Biblical Wise men’s relics are preserved.
